The NHIC Educational Trust
Established in 1980 as a Charitable Foundation
The NHIC Educational Trust was established in 1980 as a Charitable Foundation to complement the broad aims of the NHIC.
Since its inception many activities have been undertaken by the Trust including the setting up of Neighbourhood Revitalisation Schemes.
In 1983 fully funded pilot projects in four towns convinced Government to officially support an extended large-scale test Agency Scheme.
The scheme was formally handed over to an official Government-appointed agency in 1990 and in five years had completed £23.5 million of building activity improving over 3500 houses in 28 towns.
In addition the Trust has funded research into housing improvement by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
Today the Trust continues to support the NHIC in its aims to improve the overall standard of the nations’ housing stock in both the public and private sectors, creating greater awareness in local and central government and amongst consumers of the contribution that effective home improvements can make in helping achieve carbon emission targets.
The Trust’s educational work recognises that by improving the quality and sustainability of residential accommodation the useful life of the UK’s housing stock is prolonged in a cost effective way as well as improvements achieved to the social landscape and individual wellbeing.
