Carbon & Energy Efficiency Working Group
Driving Energy Efficiency & Decarbonisation in UK Homes
Our Mission
The Carbon Working Group is committed to reducing whole-life carbon emissions in the UK’s housing stock by promoting energy efficiency, sustainable materials, and low-carbon technologies. We work collaboratively with industry leaders, policymakers, and NHIC members to accelerate the transition to greener homes.

Decarbonisation & Net Zero
Supporting the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) Construct Zero priorities.

Sustainable Materials & Technologies
Encouraging the adoption of low-carbon construction and home improvement methods.
Our Impact in 2024
📌 14 energy efficiency case studies developed to highlight best practices.
📌 Advocacy for whole-house retrofit planning, ensuring sustainable home improvements.
📌 Collaborations with policymakers to drive sector-wide carbon reduction strategies.
In 2024, the Carbon and Energy Efficiency Working Group made significant strides in integrating industry data into Construct Zero, the Construction Leadership Council’s framework for driving carbon reduction across the built environment.
By aligning member contributions with Construct Zero’s metrics and priorities, the group advanced measurable progress on decarbonisation goals.
This integration has not only showcased the sector’s commitment to sustainability but also provided actionable insights to help members reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency in homes, and align with government-led net-zero targets.
Looking Ahead
In 2025, we will continue to champion low-carbon solutions, support NHIC’s 50th Anniversary Campaign, and collaborate with government bodies to strengthen energy efficiency policies.
