The Energy Saving Trust (EST) is launching a new package of support to prepare SMEs (small and medium enterprises) based in London for the upcoming Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and to raise awareness of the opportunities which this brings homeowners.
EST’s twelve hours of FREE support is available in the form of a special workshops via the Institute of Sustainability’s FLASH programme, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) estimates that Green Deal has the potential to support 250,000 jobs through the installation of 14m measures such as loft, cavity and solid wall insulation, boiler replacement, and renewable technologies.
Even with many years of subsidised loft and cavity wall insulation, thousands of homes still have unfilled cavities or too little loft insulation or inadequate heating. Many more are defined as ‘hard to treat’, requiring more expensive measures such as internal or external wall insulation and glazing improvements.
The Green Deal and ECO, due to be launched in October, are said to offer a unique opportunity to improve the energy efficiency of homes across the UK with no upfront costs to the homeowner.
EST support comes as a three stage journey and on completion of the course SME personnel will have:
- understanding of Green Deal, ECO and retrofit opportunities specific to London
- knowledge of what certification is required, how to go about it and where to go
- knowledge on whole house approach to energy efficiency and how to work with a diverse range of trades
- insight into the newest technologies and consumer insights giving you the edge over your competitors
- meet with key players in the market to give you unrivalled access to opportunities as they arise
- drive and knowledge to grow your business with opportunities provided by Green Deal and ECO.
