Are you amongst the ‘dismissive sceptics’ or ‘ostriches’, which are highlighted in the report ‘Being Gas Safe’?
It’s the latest document to come from the Gas Safety Register and identifies six ‘segments’ of the public, which need to pay specific attention to the major hazards of this silent killer!
The repot says: “Although all segments could have been legitimate targets for some behaviours, the team (those who put the report together) felt that the greatest benefit would be achieved by targeting two segments in particular.”
These are the dismissive sceptics and the ostriches.
The dismissive sceptics were worth focussing on because those in this segment were willfully ignoring safety messages. By waking them up to some of the risks they were taking it might be possible to actively shift their behaviour and improve their consumer survey and safety index measures!
The ostriches, according to the report, were those consumers/individuals who simply were not aware of the risks (as opposed to deliberately ignoring them) and so ‘need a wake-up call’, which could be achieved with similar messages as those for the dismissive sceptics!
The report is extremely worthwhile reading for every consumer who gains to learn a lot about the segment or segments into which each one of us inevitably slots.
This is a new approach to ‘teaching’ the public about CO poisoning and the serious threat it represents for us all!
