“Leadership in Energy”

New book on the life and work of Lord Ezra, NCB Chairman 1971-1982 and former NHIC President of the National Home Improvement Council

Special offer to all members of the NHIC

Order while stocks last

By a special arrangement with the publishers, The Company of Fuellers, the NHIC is able to offer Members the opportunity to order a copy of this new collective Memoir about the life and work of Derek Ezra, former President of the NHIC, and former Chairman of the National Coal Board. The fully-illustrated, 150-page hard-back book sets the NHIC’s raison d’être in its historic content, and includes many references to Lord Ezra’s lifelong interest in the issue of improving the nation’s housing stock. He still maintains this interest – at the age of 95! – through his continuing membership of the House of Lords. It also makes public, for the first time, new facts about the political and industrial relations background to the troubled decade of the 1970s – the era of the three-day week, and the first of the miners’ strikes which threatened the very foundations of the nation’s democracy.

Lord Ezra will be attending the private launch of the book, which contains contributions from several NHIC colleagues including Ernest Cantle, John Demont and Martin Cruttenden at the Drapers Hall on September 11th. The book is selling well, but stocks are now limited. You can still obtain your copy of this new book via the Editor (on behalf of the Fuellers), Roderick Braithwaite, FRHistS, on 01787 237946, or via post, accompanied by a cheque for £29.50 to “The Company of Fuellers” at :- Chestnut Cottage, Church Green, Little Yeldham, Essex CO9 4LB.

Don’t miss this chance to learn about a period in Britain’s history which saw the demise of a once-great industry, and set the scene for much of today’s energy-hungry world!
