The ‘battle’ against climate change was the very important message for delegates at the National Insulation Association’s conference this month (December).
The keynote speaker, Peter Boyd, chair of the DECC’s Energy Efficiency Office, underlined how the world has had to change in order to attain the carbon reduction targets of the future and to engage consumers in raising energy efficiency.
Boyd, who aims to provide strategic guidance whilst liaising with corporate bodies on energy efficiency, underlined the importance for of the NIA and its members in the ‘battle against climate change.’
Hosted by the NIA’s chairman Tony Hardiman MBE and its chief executive, Neil Marshall, the conference opened with a review of NIA’s key achievements in 2012, followed by its plans to support members in 2013.
Marshall set out how the NIA would be helping its members in maximising the new opportunities under Green Deal and the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), including solid wall insulation, hard to treat cavities and the largely untapped commercial market for insulation.
He said: “This year’s conference was ensuring that NIA members had the latest information and guidance on the new Green Deal and ECO for their preparations for the year ahead.
“The NIA and its members will be at the forefront in the delivery of the new Green Deal and ECO, which was reflected in the level of attendance at the conference, the quality of presentations and the debate.”
There were over 300 delegates and other important speakers were from the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM), Local Government Association, Energy UK, Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA), Which?, the Green Deal Finance Company, Willmott Dixon Energy Services, the Association for the Conservation of Energy and the headline sponsor GTi, specialist insulation supplier.
