Raising roofing construction and maintenance standards always has been a major target for the National Federation if Roofing Contractors (NFRC). As a result the NFRC now runs a Competent Person Scheme (CPS) for roofing that received government authorisation in October 2010.
NFRC says, this CPS is a considerable boost for professional roofing companies who are saving who are saving clients/customers time and money on projects. Also it confirms roofing as a recognised profession and gains a strong, competitive advantage over ‘rogue’ companies.
Amongst other things, being a Competent Roofer means that members are fully conversant with the Building Regulations and can issue Completion Certificates to customers and local authorities.
In addition there is the important reassurance that all work carried out through a Competent Roofer comes with a ten year insurance-backed warrantee free to each client within the price of the Building Regulations Completion Certificate.
Judges’ comments: CompetentRoofer is other major step forward for the NFRC. It is specifically for roofing refurbishment work, allowing competent, vetted professional roofing companies to self-certify on Building Regulations for replacement roofs. It means that social landlords, householders, private landlord or business owners get an ‘all-in-one’ service and do not need building officer approval and, consequently, can make significant savings. It is a big step forward in further professionalising the roofing industry, helping the consumer and eliminating cowboy roofers and rogue companies!”
