Green Deal on the tips of tongues at
NHIC annual awards lunch
It was very appropriate that the government’s Green Deal consultative documents were published on the eve of the NHIC’s 37th Annual Awards luncheon (24th November). Although there had been little opportunity for many of the sponsors and their guests at the event to ‘digest’ the documents, the subject was on the tip of everyone’s tongues!
Not least of all the NHIC’s guest speaker and presenter of the Annual Awards Andrew Stunell, MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary State at the Department of Communities and Local Government.
Mr Stunell made the point that the success of the Green Deal consultative document relied on the ‘expertise and co-operation of people such as those who were present at the lunch.’
He said Green Deal success was particularly important to DCLG. What mattered most was, persuading consumers to adopt it and how best to get it ‘off the ground.’
He confidently commented: “By the time the Awards come around next year, the Green Deal will have started and we will all be smiling!”
The Annual Awards were hosted by NHIC President the RT Hon Nick Raynsford MP. He emphasided that Britain had ‘a very old housing stock and lots of it is was still in a poor condition.’
He said, it was vitally important that organisations such as the NHIC continued to promote home improvement and that we held events such as the Annual Awards to ‘celebrate the successes’!
